The Bulldog: The Original Tailored Swim Shorts

Launched in 2007, our founder, Adam Brown, recognised a gap in the market for stylish men’s swimwear that could transition seamlessly from the beach to the bar. Frustrated by the baggy, casual styles that dominated the market, Adam envisioned swimwear that mirrored the sophisticated structure and style of tailored trousers. This vision was actualised in our first and most iconic product, the Bulldog tailored swim shorts.

The Bulldog was our initial design and quickly became the foundation of our brand. It broke the mold using over 60 elements with a pattern based on traditional men’s suit  trousers, featuring adjustable side fasteners, a curved waistband, a zip fly, and a mid-length style. These elements provided a refined, sartorial elegance that transformed men’s swimwear. 

We launched with just one style of swim shorts in 4 different lengths and 5 color options. What started with the iconic Bulldog style, we have grown into a global resort wear brand while continuously refining and evolving our designs over the last 17 years.

Engineering The Perfect Fit

The complexity of the Bulldog shorts is hidden in their simplicity. Initially crafted from a six-piece pattern. Today, each pair of Orlebar Brown swim shorts comprises over 60 components in the construction, a major evolution from the original 6-piece design. 

This intricate construction includes a four-part shaped waistband and darts at the back, enhancing comfort and ensuring the shorts maintain their shape, whether you’re lounging by the pool or enjoying a casual dinner on the terrace.

Unlike most swim trunks, our Bulldog has a zipper fly and metal side fasteners instead of an elastic waistband. This adds to the tailored, elevated look and feel.

In our journey towards sustainability, we've transitioned the Bulldog and other styles to include fabrics made from recycled materials, ensuring our commitment to the environment is as strong as our commitment to style and quality.

Recent versions of the Bulldog shorts are made from recycled plastic, reducing our environmental impact without compromising on quality or style. This material ensures quick drying and high durability, ideal for both water activities and everyday wear

Setter: With a shorter inseam above the knee, the Setter offers a traditional swim trunk cut, ideal for those who prefer classic styles.
