Knitted merino blazers in 12-gauge Milano stitch. Padded blousons with GRS-certified recycled wadding. Brushed organic cotton field jackets, water-repellent. Hybrid down funnel jackets, lightweight, packable. Most of it knitted or woven in Italy. All of it tailored for the way the day cools, not the way the weather forecasts it.

Orlebar Brown began in 2007 with a swim short, and the rest of the wardrobe was built outwards from there. Jackets were the last to arrive and the most considered for it. We make ours in two registers: knitted, for refined warmth, and woven, for structured layering. Both are cut with the same tailoring discipline as the swim short.

What makes Orlebar Brown outerwear different?

Our outerwear is split between knitted merino layers and structured woven jackets. Merino blazers, cardigans, overshirts and hoodies are knitted in Italy in fine gauges, fully fashioned, with details like Milano-stitch plackets and mother-of-pearl buttons. Padded blousons use GRS-certified recycled wadding. Field jackets are woven in brushed organic cotton with a water-repellent finish. The collection is built for travel and cooler resort hours.

Which jacket is best for warm-weather layering?

For warm summer evenings, a lightweight knitted merino cardigan or a 12-gauge merino overshirt. For cooler coastal weather, a padded blouson with recycled wadding. The knitted layers travel well and pack down without creasing.

Are Orlebar Brown jackets water-resistant?

Our field jackets are woven from brushed organic cotton twill with a water-repellent finish, designed to handle light showers. Our padded blousons use a nylon-cotton shell that resists light water. Check individual product details for specific weather-resistant features.

What is the difference between Orlebar Brown's knitted and padded jackets?

Knitted jackets (blazers, cardigans, overshirts, hoodies) are knitted in Italy from merino in 5-gauge or 12-gauge constructions, finished with details like ribbed collars and Milano-stitch plackets. They are designed for refined warmth and breathability. Padded jackets (blousons and hybrid funnel jackets) use a woven shell with recycled wadding or down for warmer, more weather-protective layering.

Are Orlebar Brown jackets suitable for travel? Yes. The knitted merino pieces are breathable, lightweight and packable. The hybrid down funnel jacket is specifically designed for travel, pairing a down-filled stretch-nylon front with Milano-knit merino panels for warmth without bulk.

Where can I wear Orlebar Brown jackets?

A knitted merino blazer over a tailored polo reads as dinner. A merino cardigan over a linen shirt reads as the long way home from lunch. A padded blouson on a coastal walk reads as winter resort. A field jacket on a flight, or a knitted hoody on the way to the gate.

Are Orlebar Brown jackets sustainable?

Our padded blousons use GRS-certified recycled wadding. Our field jackets are woven from brushed organic cotton twill. Our knitted layers use merino in fine gauges, knitted in Italy. Orlebar Brown is a carbon neutral company, rebalancing carbon through Blue Carbon projects with SeaTrees.
