Ten styles. Two fits. Six fabrications. Linen, silk, cotton, towelling, knit, crochet. A shirt for lunch, a shirt for dinner, a shirt for over the swim short on the walk home. Capri collars for the warmer hours, classic collars for the cooler ones. Woven in Italy. Made in Portugal. Designed in London since 2007.
If in doubt, wear a shirt. It is a rule we live by, and it is also a rule the shirt itself has to earn. The brand began in 2007 with a swim short cut from the pattern of a traditional man's suit trouser, and the same tailoring discipline shows everywhere else we make. Shirts most clearly. We make ours in two fits, ten named styles and six fabrications, with one collar in particular doing a lot of the work.
What makes Orlebar Brown shirts unique?
Our shirts are built with the same tailoring discipline as our swim shorts: clean silhouettes, considered cuts and superior fabrics. Ten named styles across two fits and six fabrications, woven in Italy in silk, cotton and finer linen, woven in Portugal in 100% linen, and knitted in Italy in crochet and towelling. The signature capri collar runs across much of the line. Designed in London since 2007.
How should I choose the right Orlebar Brown shirt?
We offer two fits across ten named styles. For a closer, structured silhouette suited to dinner or a smarter daytime, choose a tailored shirt: the Giles, Justin, Thomas, Tiernan or Ridley. For a looser, easier register, a relaxed shirt: the Maitan, Vincent, Howell, Colburn or Roddy Button Through.
What is the difference between Orlebar Brown's tailored and relaxed shirts?
Tailored shirts have a closer, more defined cut through the chest and shoulder. Relaxed shirts are cut wider through the body for ease and warm-weather wear, often finished with the capri collar and a concealed placket.
What is a capri collar?
The capri collar is a one-piece, soft-fold collar designed to be worn open and unbuttoned. It sits flatter than a classic collar, lets the shirt drape more easily, and reads as resort wear without trying. The detail runs across much of our shirting, particularly the Maitan, our signature resort shirt.
What fabrics do Orlebar Brown shirts come in?
Six fabrications. Linen shirts in 100% linen, woven in Portugal and Italy. Silk shirts in organic silk, woven in Italy. Cotton shirts in micro-cord, seersucker and open-weave, woven in Italy. Embroidered shirts with exclusive in-house designs, finished onto linen or cotton bases. Towelling shirts knitted from organic cotton in Italy. Knitted and crochet shirts in 5-gauge organic cotton, knitted in Italy.
Where are Orlebar Brown shirts made?
Designed in London. Woven in Italy (silk, cotton, micro-cord, seersucker, finer linen). Woven in Portugal (100% linen). Knitted in Italy (crochet, chevron knit, towelling).
Are Orlebar Brown shirts true to size?
Our shirts are designed for a tailored fit. If you prefer a more relaxed silhouette, consider sizing up or choosing one of our relaxed-fit styles, such as the Maitan or Vincent.
Where can I wear Orlebar Brown shirts?
A linen shirt with day shorts reads as smart-casual lunch. A silk shirt over linen trousers reads as dinner. A towelling shirt over a swim short reads as resort. A crochet shirt holds the cooler evenings.
Are Orlebar Brown shirts sustainable?
Orlebar Brown is a carbon neutral company, rebalancing carbon through Blue Carbon projects with SeaTrees. Many of our shirts are made from organic cotton, organic silk and 100% linen, which is a naturally low-impact fibre.
