sea-trees-carbon-rebalance
At Orlebar Brown we believe holidays are
the very best times with family, friends
and loved ones; you create special
memories and see wonderful places. We know that to enjoy our
products when we go on
holiday, we all contribute to
climate change.
Whether getting on a plane,
going on a boat or staying in
a hotel or resort; all of
this
impacts the environment. In 2018 we began a journey to be a more
sustainable company and have committed
to be carbon-negative by the end of
2021 and to be an Ocean Positive brand
through our partnership with SeaTrees.
SeaTrees support BLUE CARBONprojects
that regenerate coastal ecosystems, by drawing
carbon from the air, increasing biodiversity,
creating jobs and sustainable communities.
We have invested in three high grade
verified projects monitored under two
official governing bodies, the Verified
Carbon Standard (VCS), and
the Climate, Community & Biodiversity
Alliance (CCBA). Through these projects, we
will RE-BALANCE all carbon emitted through
our business operations and all product
from January 2021.
Every project is assessed and measured against the United Nations’ Sustainable
Development Goals. SeaTrees is on track to
plant 1 million SeaTrees by 2021 and aim to
reach 1 billion SeaTrees by 2030.
MANGROVE FORESTS
PROJECT SOUTHERN
CARDAMOM
SOUTHERN CARDAMOM
REDD+ RAINFOREST &
MANGROVE PROJECT
Our first project is with Southern
Cardamom REDD+, Cambodia, created
to protect 97,000 hectares of old-growth
rainforest and the largest contiguous
mangrove forest ecosystem in the
Gulf of Thailand.
We want to rebalance our carbon
number by sequestering (another word
for ‘suck’) 1 metric ton
of CO2 through
VCS/CCBA certified carbon credits
sourced from this project.
THIS PROJECT ALSO AIMS TO:
Protect endangered species,
including Irrawaddy
Dolphins and
Malaysian Sun Bears
Provide 200+ local jobs
Provide education for the local community
Provide healthcare benefits for 16,000+
people in the local community
PROJECT EDEN
PROJECTS
EDEN PROJECTS
MANGROVE PROJECT
Mangroves forests sequester 5-10 times more CO2 out of the atmosphere per hectare than tropical rainforests; much of that carbon is stored in the mangrove ecosystem’s soil and sediment.
SeaTrees work with local planting partner Eden Projects to plant mangroves in West Papua, Indonesia and protect one of the most extensive tracts of mangrove forest in the Gulf of Thailand with Wildlife Alliance.
To help us become a carbon negative company, we will plant 4 mangrove trees in the Biak Region of West Papua, Indonesia, with Eden Projects, which can sequester an additional 1.2 metric tons of CO2 over the tree’s 25-year lifetime.
THIS PROJECT ALSO AIMS TO:
Provide sustainable employment for local communities in West Papua
Protect island communities from
storm-surges and rising sea-levels
Create critical habitat for threatened species
Sequester carbon in one of the most efficient ways possible
PROJECT THE BAY
FOUNDATION
THE BAY FOUNDATION
KELP PROJECT
Kelp forests also sequester carbon dioxide.
Globally, kelp has the potential to store as
much CO2 as mangrove ecosystems. 10%
of kelp breaks off and sinks deep into the
ocean, where it sequesters the CO2.
Through SeaTrees and their local
restoration partner, The Bay Foundation,
we are restoring giant kelp forests in
Palos Verdes, California, creating critical
habitat for myriad species. The final goal
is to collectively restore 50,000 sq ft of this
underwater kelp forest.
THIS PROJECT ALSO AIMS TO:
Provide employment for local
urchin fisherman
Restore critical coastal habitat
in Southern California
Protect endangered species like abalone
